OLDONYO LENGAI
Oldonyo Lengai, known as the "Mountain of God" in the Maasai language, is a unique and active stratovolcano in Tanzania. Rising dramatically from the East African Rift Valley, it stands as a testament to the earth's geologic forces. Lengai's distinctive feature is its natrocarbonatite lava, which is cooler and much less viscous than typical lava, giving it a black, frothy appearance.
Trekking to the summit of Oldonyo Lengai offers an otherworldly experience as you navigate its rugged terrain and volcanic ash. The reward at the top is not only the breathtaking view but also the opportunity to witness an active volcano, a rare phenomenon in itself. As you stand atop Lengai, the sunrise paints the surrounding landscapes with hues of gold, creating a surreal atmosphere.
